Established in 2006, Vung Ang Economic Zone in the central province of Ha Tinh has become a driving force for the province's economic development. The 22,781 ha EZ, about 70km from Ha Tinh city and 50km from Dong Hoi airport of neighbouring Quang Binh province, is one of five coastal economic zones selected by the Government to develop into a center for steel, thermal power and supporting industries, and a deep-water seaport of the central region as well as the whole country. Vung Ang EZ is one of Vietnam's three international sea entrepot, serving for goods transit to Laos and Northeast Thailand. Up to now, Vung Ang EZ has attracted 152 investment projects, including 55 FDI ones with a total registered capital of more than 15.77 billion USD, and 97 domestic projects capitalized totally more than 60.3 trillion VND (2.5 billion USD), providing jobs for nearly 20,000 domestic and foreign workers.
