The south-central province of Ninh Thuan is facing a scorching summer causing bad droughts. This hottest province of Vietnam has had no rain for several recent months, only heat waves and droughts spreadingly ravage. As of May 24, 2020, the total water volume in the province’s 21 reservoirs is only 23.78 million cu.m, accounting for more than 12% of the designed capacity of 194.49 cu.m; of which 17 reservoirs are exhausted, some even are chapped. Ninh Thuan province has to leave fallow an area of over 15,300 ha, including more than 10,800 ha of summer-autumn rice crop, and some 4,500 ha of other crops. Ninh Thuan has declared the level 3 drought emergency for the whole province and the level 4 emergency for Thuan Nam and Thuan Bac districts. VNA Photo
