Renewable energy is seen as key to the green economic development in the Mekong Delta region. Localities in the region are focusing on attracting investment in renewable energy projects, helping to solve energy security issues and making socio-economic breakthroughs in the region. Over the past decade, the Delta experienced three periods of serious drought and saltwater intrusion in 2015-2016, 2019-2020 and 2023-2024, seriously affecting agricultural production, which is seen as the economic pillar of the region. In that context, the application of renewable energy is not only a sustainable option to cope with environmental challenges, thus to contribute to the region’s socio-economic development. VNA Photo
