Phat Diem Stone Cathedral, located in Kim Son district of the northern province of Ninh Binh, about 120 km in the south of Hanoi, is one of the most famous and beautiful churches of Vietnam. Built during 24 consecutive years from 1875 to 1898, the Catholic church has a special architecture, a blend of the architecture styles of Western churches and Vietnamese religious buildings such as communal houses, pagodas and temples. The cathedral is 74 meters long, 21 meters wide and 15 meters high with four roofs, reproducing Vietnamese pagoda roofs. Apart from the cathedral, there are six other structures in the complex, including a stone chapel and an elegant bell tower. This entire complex is spread over an area of 6.1 ha. VNA Photo: Minh Đức
