Farmer Nguyen Ba Ngoc in Nhon Hai commune of Ninh Hai district, Ninh Thuan province, has just succeeded in commercially rearing and breeding wild-caught squids. He started his work in 2019 based on a concern that because of huge and increasingly higher consumption, cuttlefish resources will be exhausted if there isn’t any rehabilitation measure. He invested into a semi-natural tank of 2.300 square metres in C3 zone of Nhon Hai commune, Ninh Hai district, Ninh Thuan province) and earned success in 2023. After his trials and errors, he found that a cage of 1,000 square metres with 10,000 live squids yields about 7 tonnes of squids. Each year, squid farmers can earn up to VND 1 billion (USD 41,902) per year after two seasons of squid rearing. Squid breeding has also succeeded in other parts of Vietnam, namely Phu Quoc and Binh Dinh provinces. VNA Photo: Nguyễn Thành
