After an intense match, Vietnam beat Thailand 3-2 in the final leg of the ASEAN Cup on January 5 evening. In the final 10 minutes of the match, Vietnam scored the third goal into an empty net as all Thai players including the goalkeeper were in Vietnam's side looking to equalize. When the final whistle was blown, Vietnam became the ASEAN Cup champion for the third time in history, with an aggregate score of 5-3 after two legs, in the most dramatic ending possible to the tournament.
