Wax coconut is a specialty fruit of Tra Vinh province, known for its high economic value and strong contribution to the province’s brand. However, wax coconuts cannot naturally germinate due to their genetic characteristics. To solve this problem, Tra Vinh province uses embryo-cultured wax coconut seedlings. However, the cost for this type of seedlings is quite high, ranging from 800,000 to 1.2 million VND (31 - 47 USD) per tree, which slows the specialisation of wax-coconuts in local farms. To address this issue, researchers from Tra Vinh University successfully developed tissue-cultured wax coconut trees that adapt well to the climate and soil conditions of Tra Vinh province. Additionally, the tissue-cultured wax coconut seedlings are priced between 700,000 and 800,000 VND (28 - 31 USD) per tree, producing high-quality, low-cost wax coconut seedlings to meet farmers' needs.
