Thanh Chi seedless lime cooperative in Cang Long district, Tra Vinh province has proved its effectiveness over years of operation with continuous export of seedless lime to the Netherlands. Local people in Cang Long district used to cultivate rice and coconut, but it did not bring profitable income. Seedless lime became a viable solution for local farmers here in the Mekong Delta province, with its thin skin, less sour and bitter flavours and stronger citrus fragrance. Seedless lime is also more productive with multiple fruits on the same tree branch. With these favourable characteristics, seedless lime has conquered the market in the Netherlands. Each year, farmers earn a profit of more than 400 million VND (15,933 USD) from their lime trees, which is 7 to 8 times higher than the profit from rice cultivation. In addition to the profit, farmers who join the Thanh Chi cooperative will also get support to cultivate their lime trees under Global GAP standards and discount on fertilizer and pesticide.
