According to the Global Seafood Alliance, Vietnam is one of the top five shrimp producers, apart from Ecuador, China, India, and Indonesia, which together make up about 74% of the global output. The southernmost province of Ca Mau alone is home to 280,000 hectares of shrimp breeding, accounting for 40% of the total shrimp area in Vietnam. The province's shrimp output reaches more than 220,000 tonnes per year, equivalent to 22% of the country’s total, with its output in 2023 estimated to reach 233,000 tonnes and export revenue, 1.2 billion USD. The shrimp industry provides livelihoods for more than 600,000 people, or half the province’s population. VNA Photo
