Three rare primate species were discovered in the Ben En National Park in the central province of Thanh Hoa as a result of a scientific project on evaluating and preserving primates in the region from 2019-2021. The newly-detected primate species belong to the Macaca genus, namely Rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta) having six groups with 180 individuals, Stump-Tailed macaque (Macaca arctoides) - three groups with 54 individuals, and Assam macaque (Macaca assamensis) – 2 groups with 45 individuals. The 16,000 ha national park, half of which is virgin forest, is home to valuable and rare species of animals and birds, many of them are identified in the Red Book. VNA Photo: Nguyễn Nam
