Pa Khoang Reservoir went into operation in 1979, situated at 900 metres above sea-level between Muong Phang and Pa Khoang communes in the northern province of Dien Bien. Pa Khoang is the largest reservoir in Dien Bien province, spanning a surface area of 600 hectares with various small islands within its area. One of the most famous islands has nearly 100,000 peach blossom trees from Japan, also known locally as “sakura island”.
