Ca phe vot (net-filter coffee) shop located at 330/2 Phan Dinh Phung street, Phu Nhuan district, Ho Chi Minh City, has been serving coffee non-stop for the past 70 years. Net-filter coffee takes its name because the coffee is brewed with the old-fashioned filtration method using a spoon-shaped net filter which resembles the instrument used to catch fish at aquatic stores. To make coffee, the barista spoons some ground coffee into the net, which is placed upon an empty stainless steel jug, then adds hot water, brews the coffee for a few seconds, then transfers to glasses to serve customers. The coffee taste has bitter notes and smoky flavour, with a pleasant aftertaste. The coffee at this humble shop has served people from all walks of life in Ho Chi Minh city, and it has become a part of the people’s daily life routine, where they come to get a quick coffee-to-go, or sit down onto low stools, sipping coffee, chatting with old friends and watching the busy streets of the southern hub.
