Since its establishment in 2019, the Mu Cang Chai cooperative has produced different agrarian products including vegetables, beetroots, and most notably, shiitake mushroom. The cooperative now has more than 7,000 square metres of mushroom growing area, with an estimated yield of 200 tonnes of shiitake mushroom in 2023. Mushroom growers can earn up to 75,000VND (3.2USD) per kilogram of shiitake mushroom, providing a stable source of income for locals in the mountainous commune of Nam Khat, Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province.
