The Lu ethnic people in Ban Hon commune, Tam Duong district (Lai Chau province) have many unique customs and traditions, among which the craft of traditional brocade weaving. Lu ethnic women have made contributions to preserving and promoting this traditional craft. For generations, the Lu people highly value the art of weaving and consider it a measure of a woman's skillfulness. The craft is passed down from one generation to another, the production of brocade textiles and garments involves multiple meticulous and skillful processes. The process starts from growing cotton, picking the cotton, separating the seeds, spinning the thread, weaving the fabric, and dyeing with natural colours. It takes around 2 to 3 months for Lu women to complete a set of garments with vibrant and colourful patterns. The development of the traditional brocade weaving craft not only contributes to the preservation and conservation of the cultural heritage of Vietnam's ethnic groups but also provides employment opportunities and improves income for Lự ethnic women.
