The Nghien Loan cattle kermis in Pac Nam district, Bac Kan province is the largest traditional one of its kind in Vietnam’s northern region. Open on the 1st, 6th, 11th, 16th, 21st, 26th of every lunar month, the market attracts many traders not only from neighbouring provinces of Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, but also remote other localities such as Thai Nguyen, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Hai Duong, or Nghe An. Each session sees some 1,500 to 2,500 cattle brought to the kermis for trading. The market plays an important role in the life of the local ethnic community and is becoming a tourist attraction.
