The Mekong Delta province of An Giang’s Van Giao commune has been home to the Khmer ethnic for hundreds of years. The Khmer people in An Giang province have a generational tradition of weaving brocade fabric with complex patterns, which mean long hours and laborious work to create a final piece. There was a time that the weaving tradition dwindled in the community due to lack of trade and artisans. In spite of the situation, local authorities have created a co-operative with the help of elder weavers to teach the young generation the art of Khmer brocade weaving. Additionally, they ensured the end products reach the Cambodian market, bringing stable income to Khmer weavers. VNA Photo: Công Mạo
