The northern province of Phu Tho’s Phu Ninh district is entering the peak harvest season of Gia Thanh seedless persimmons. The district has a total of 260 hectares growing the specialty fruit, with 100 hectares ready for harvest, and with an estimated harvest yield to exceed 2,000 tons of persimmon, marking a year-on-year increase of 30 per cent. The seedless persimmon variety is a specialty of Gia Thanh commune, known for its distinctive, delicious flavour, large size, and elongated shape. When ripe, the fruit turns a bright yellow, with a crisp texture and a sweet, sharp taste. The province aims to increase the total growing area of Gia Thanh persimmon to 300 hectares by 2025 through providing support on agricultural services and branding for local farmers.
