Ghenh Da Dia (Rapids of Stone Plates) is one of the most popular destinations for visitors to Dak Lak province (former Phu Yen province). Formed by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago, the rocky shore of Ghenh Da Dia has the unique shapes of round, hexagon, pentagon and polygon. Located in An Ninh Dong commune, Tuy An district, Ghenh Da Dia is a stretch of coastline with prismatic basalt columns that appear like plates stacked on top of each other. According to a local study, basalt in the area was formed by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. As the lava flows cooled, they solidified and cracked into relatively uniform prismatic rock columns. The stone columns, located right next to the sea, were then eroded by waves and continued to crack, forming these stone ‘disks’. The combination of nature’s sculpture and rare scientific value has created a valuable geological heritage, the heart of Dak Lak geopark. VNA Photo
