The 10th day of Lunar New Year is traditionally known as the birthday of Earth Mother, celebrating the Earth God (Ong Dia), an ancient god in folklore who governs his small region of land. Earth God is often depicted as a man with a stout body, a big belly and a smiling mouth, a familiar cultural image in Vietnam’s southern region. Nguyen Hieu Tin, a culture researcher and lecturer from Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City, is well-known for his hobby of collecting different kinds of Ong Dia statues. He owns more than 400 statues over a decade of collecting and researching, some of the statues are centuries old. VNA Photo: Hồng Đạt
