Tet Doan Ngo, known as pest-killing festival, celebrated annually on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month (May 31 this year), is one of Vietnam’s major traditional festivals. It is an occasion for family members to get together to worship their ancestors, making wishes for good health and safety. Families across the country prepare offerings, including "ruou nep" (fermented glutinous rice) and "banh tro" (a cake made from glutinous rice soaked in ash water), together with the first fruits of the season, incense, tea and flowers, on their altar on the day. Such offerings are a perfect combination bringing special culinary characteristics to Tet Doan Ngo. VNA Photo: Khánh Hòa
