Within the bustling and hustle of busy daily life in the southern metropolitan area of Ho Chi Minh City, there lies a village named after its craft - “Banh Tet” village - which keeps its fire on all night to deliver new batches of banh tet to customers every Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday. Banh chung, banh tet are cakes made from glutinous rice, green beans, meat, wrapped with dong leaves or banana leaves, which are indispensable on the altar of grandparents and ancestors during Tet in every Vietnamese family. The village in hamlet 4, Nhi Binh commune, Hoc Mon District has keeps the tradition of banh tet making, while adding in new flavours with many other types of fillings such as salted eggs, cashews, bananas, in addition to the traditional fillings of green beans and meat.
