Autumn is usually recognized as the best time of the year to visit Hanoi for its pleasant, cool weather, beautiful flowers and delicious autumn treats. Hanoi in autumn has its unique atmosphere that is not easy to find in any other locations in Vietnam, with its cool, dry wind and the golden sun rays at dusk and dawn. Autumn nights in Hanoi also bring a special kind of fragrance from milkwood tree’s flowers (Alstonia scholaris), the flowers that only bloom in Hanoi’s autumn time and have become a symbol of Hanoi’s autumn. As one strolls through the streets, one can find Com (young glutinous rice), wrapped in lotus leaves as a fun snack and a great gift to bring home.
