Ancient Xoan singing resounds to welcome visitors to Hung Kings Temple Festival

A programme of Xoan singing in ancient villages is being held from April 14-18 (the 6th-10th days of the third Lunar month) on the occasion of the Hung Kings Temple Festival in the northern province of Phu Tho. Artisans from the original Xoan guilds give their performances at cultural relic sites in Phuong Lau, Kim Duc and Hung Lo communes. Xoan performances include singing, dancing, and drumming. Closely linked to the worship of the Hung Kings, believed to be the founders of the nation, Xoan singing is traditionally performed at holy places such as temples, sanctuaries, and communal houses. Tourists will also find value in the worshiping itself as another UNESCO-recognised intangible cultural heritage of the humanity. VNA/Photo by courtesy
