Ancient village of Tay ethnic people in Tuyen Quang

Dong Da 1 village in Thuong Nong commune, Na Hang district of the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang is seen as an ancient village of Tay ethnic people where still fully preserves their unique traditional cultural values. The most prominent in the village, where 100 percent of its population are Tay people, are ancient stilt houses built one hundred years ago. These houses were built according to Tay group’s typical architecture with 5 or 3 compartments depending on the economic conditions of each family, and 4 roofs. The pillars of the house are made of wood and the floor is paved with bamboo or wood. However, instead of thatched roofs like the stilt houses of Tay people in other places, the house roofs in the village are covered with trough tiles that the villagers made themselves from red soil. In addition to the old stilt houses, the villagers still preserve traditional crafts such as wine cooking, cotton cultivation and weaving… VNA Photo: Nam Sương
