The Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute recently introduced 20 new rice varieties to local farmers for the winter-spring sowing season. Farmers get a chance to visit the rice fields with new varieties and learn about their characteristics. New rice varieties once selected will be solutions to combat saltwater intrusion before harvest in these distinct rice-growing ecosystems of the Mekong Delta. It ensures food security, nutrition, and the development of risk prediction systems, enabling policy recommendations and creating new opportunities for the rice industry to adapt to natural disasters and flooding.
