General Secretary Tô Lâm and French President Emmanuel Macron visited the Hồ Chí Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace on Monday, where they also planted a tree symbolising the friendship between two nations.

France's top leader is in Việt Nam for a three-day State visit, the first to the country since he was elected President in 2017. Macron earlier in the day has met with General Secretary Tô Lâm, held official talks with President Lương Cường, and had a meeting with National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn.

Việt Nam attaches special importance to its relationship with Laos and remains committed to nurturing and developing the ties sustainably and substantively, said Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính.

The Vietnamese top legislator highlighted the impressive achievements in economic, trade, and investment cooperation, describing these areas as fundamental pillars of the bilateral relationship between Việt Nam and France

As Việt Nam is on the threshold of a new era of development and striving to become a developed and high-income country by 2045, President Lương Cường voiced his hope that France – a traditional friend – will continue to be present on Việt Nam's path to prosperity and civility.

Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in energy transition, with France supporting Việt Nam within the framework of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP); and expand collaboration into nuclear energy, human resources training, and the peaceful use of atomic energy, such as in the healthcare sector.

Under the freshly-inked documents, information sharing is a cornerstone between Vietnamese and Lao border forces, with both sides pledging to regularly exchange information about the borderline and marker management and cross-border crimes.

President Macron underscored France's desire to become a leading partner in supporting Việt Nam's goal of becoming a developed nation by mid-century.

During a session with ASEAN youth representatives, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính expressed confidence that the bright future of the bloc will be written by a generation of youth who dare to think, act and lead for a united and sustainable ASEAN.

Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính emphasised that AIPA should further strengthen its role and contributions in maintaining peace and stability in the region through measures and actions that uphold international laws

A recent document issued by the Politburo stressed uninterrupted operations during the administrative restructuring.

Macron’s official visit to Việt Nam from May 25 to 27 is the first by a French President in the last ten years and the first since the two countries upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in October 2024. 

President Marcos Jr. stated that the two countries have an ample room and potential for cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, security and defence, agriculture, rice import-export, and renewable energy.

During the meeting with his French counterpart in Hà Nội, Vietnamese defence minister Phan Văn Giang underscored that the two countries’ defence cooperation has continued to be strengthened and developed practically and effectively in many fields.

In this challenging landscape, ASEAN leaders note that the bloc must reinforce solidarity, assert the value of dialogue, cooperation, and multilateralism, enhance strategic autonomy, and amplify its unified voice in contributing constructively to global processes.

Cooperation mechanisms should be further fine-tuned, with a priority given to improving the efficiency of coordination between the ASEAN Secretariat and the GCC Secretariat

During the plenary session of the 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, ASEAN leaders agreed to adopt the document 'ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future', which includes the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and strategies for political-security, economic, socio-cultural and connectivity pillars, establishing a strategic foundation for future cooperation and integration.

French President Emmanuel Macron and his spouse are paying a State visit to Vietnam from May 25 to 27 at the invitation of Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong. This is President Macron's first visit to Vietnam since he took office in 2017 and was re-elected in 2022. The visit holds significance in the two countries’ relations, especially after they upgraded their relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in October 2024 during the official visit to France by Party General Secretary To Lam.

Over five decades since establishing diplomatic relations, the Việt Nam–Malaysia partnership has continued to flourish—nurtured by generations of leaders and expanding in both scope and depth across all areas of cooperation.
