HÀ NỘI — The Department for Roads of Vietnam has proposed a project worth nearly VNĐ9.3 trillion ($385 million) to upgrade and innovate parts of three national highways – No 53, No 62 ,and No 91B – in the Mekong Delta.

Of the sum, over VNĐ6.25 trillion will be sourced from the World Bank’s loans and over VNĐ3 trillion from Việt Nam’s counterpart capital, according to a proposal submitted to the Ministry of Transport.

The project will upgrade about 69km of National Highway No 62 in Long An province, Ngã Tư bridge and a 41km section of National Highway No 53 in Vĩnh Long and Trà Vinh provinces, and a 141km section of National Highway No 91B in Cần Thơ city and the provinces of Hậu Giang, Sóc Trăng, and Bạc Liêu.

Once upgraded, the roads will have four lanes, a designed maximum speed of 80km per hour, 11m-wide road surfaces, and 0.5m-wide roadsides.

The project will be implemented in five years after the funding agreement takes effect, the department said. — VNS
