GIA LAI — A collision between two sleeper buses at the intersection of the Hồ Chí Minh bypass road and National Highway No. 25 in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai early Tuesday morning (April 30) resulted in one death and 16 others injured.

According to initial information from the Gia Lai Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, the incident occurred around 3am on Tuesday in Chư Sê Town.

A sleeper bus operated by Cô Hai Bus Company, traveling from Hà Nội to Krông Pa, driven by Nguyễn Công Dân, collided with a sleeper bus from Quốc Cường Bus Company, driven by Đinh Văn Hùng, en route from Đà Nẵng to Đắk Lắk.

The impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles. The scene was littered with debris from the vehicles, and a traffic signal pole and median barrier were knocked over. The Quốc Cường bus veered off the road into a nearby field.

Upon receiving the report, emergency services promptly arrived at the scene. The victims were transported to nearby medical facilities for emergency treatment.

According to information from the hospital, the 16 injured individuals are currently undergoing intensive treatment, with several suffering from multiple traumas. The deceased victim's identity has been confirmed.

Lý Minh Thái, director of the Gia Lai Province Health Department, stated that the Gia Lai Province General Hospital immediately activated a code red response, mobilising a team of experienced medical professionals to receive and treat the victims.

Highly skilled doctors conducted patient triage at the scene and at the Chư Sê District Health Centre. The provincial general hospital prepared various plans for receiving and treating the victims.

Currently, two cases of traumatic brain injury have been prioritised for emergency treatment and transferred to the special care unit for monitoring.

The Gia Lai Province Traffic Police are deploying traffic control measures.  —  VNS
