(Photo: VietnamPlus) Hanoi (VNA) - According to the 2022 rating by US News & World Report, Vietnam is the 30th most powerful country with its GDP topping 363 billion USD, a population of 98.2 million, and a per capita GDP in purchasing power equivalent of more than 11,553 USD.
With its economy on the rise, Vietnam is firmly maintaining its position among the top 30 most powerful countries in the world in 2022, according to the rating by the US News & World Report.
The rating places Vietnam in the 30th position with its GDP topping 363 billion USD, a population of more than 98.2 million, and a per capita GDP in purchasing power equivalent of more than 11,553 USD.
In Southeast Asia, the country is second only to Singapore which holds the 26th position with a GDP nearing 400 billion USD and a population of 5.45 million; while Indonesia is in the 32nd position with a GDP nearing 1.120 trillion USD and a population of more than 176 million, and Thailand is holding the 36th position with a GDP of 506 billion USD and a population of 70 million.
Vietnam was in the 25th position in the world one year earlier, the 10th in Asia and the second in Southeast Asia after Singapore, followed by Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia.
Vietnam’s position affirms its increasing prestige and role in international arena.
Over the recent past, the country has also won high recognition for its “soft power” with a spectacular rise in the ratings, its influence growing in the region and the world as a whole.

(Photo: VietnamPlus) As the global economy faces headwinds, Vietnam’s economy continues to rapidly grow, reaching 8%, much higher than the planned 6-6.5% and higher compared to other countries in the region and the world at large.
The International Monetary Fund described it as a silver lining of the cloud of the global economy.
In the international arena, Vietnam continues to make responsible contributions at important multilateral forums, especially the United Nations, ASEAN, APEC, and the Sub-Mekong cooperation. It has held many important positions at international and regional forums.
In 2022, Vietnam was elected to various important international organisations. A series of visits by high-level leaders of Vietnamese Party and State and those by foreign leaders to Vietnam have shown that it is a year full of diplomacy.
The United Nations is proud to be a partner of Vietnam, stated UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres while visiting the country last October on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of Vietnam’s joining the largest multilateral organisation, and this manifests the recognition of its active and responsible contributions in international arena.
Vietnam continues to make proactive contributions to the environment of peace and stability of the world, clearly manifesting its role as a trusted and responsible partner in the international community. This has further cemented Vietnam’s position in international arena, as affirmed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that Vietnam and its people are able to take pride of the fact that their voice is respected by all the countries.
The rating places the US as the world’s top economic and military power, followed by China and Russia./.
