Hanoi, (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

-President Vo Van Thuong on June 14 met with 140 role models in the fight against drug crime nationwide and representatives of families of the 28 persons falling down in the fight.
The meeting in Hanoi took place on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s appeal for patriotic emulation (June 11, 1948 - 2023), on the sidelines of a programme held by the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) in honour of the exemplars, and in response to the Action Month for Drug Prevention and Control in June.Read full text

-Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted a reception for Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Hanoi on June 14.
The PM spoke highly of delegation exchanges between Vietnam and the UAE in the recent past, especially the visit to the UAE by Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan last May, which reaped significant outcomes.
Host and guest shared the view that the bilateral friendship and cooperation have made progress in various spheres like politics-diplomacy, economy, trade, investment, tourism and energy.Read full text

-Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang and Minister of State in the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Anne-Marie Trevelyan co-chaired the ninth strategic dialogue between the two countries in London on June 12.
They shared the view that the Vietnam - UK strategic dialogue has been developing intensively and comprehensively in all spheres and on both bilateral and multilateral dimensions, especially with the strategic partnership established in 2010 and the 2020 joint statement identifying nine priority areas, showing the countries’ strong determination to elevate bilateral relations.Read full text

-Three days after the gun attacks targeting the headquarters of the People’s Committees of Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur communes of Cu Kuin district, the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, normal activities have resumed in the localities with ensured security thanks to the efforts of authorised forces.
During the attacks, which took place on early June 11 morning, gunmen killed and injured a number of communal police officers, communal cadres, and civilians, causing insecurity among the local community.
In order to ensure safety for locals, Dak Lak has set up security stations where authorised personnel are available around the clock.Read full text

-The Vietnamese Embassy in Italy, in collaboration with the Rome-based Centre for International Studies (Ce.SI), has held a seminar themed “Dynamics in the Indo-Pacific and the Importance of Italy’s Engagement” on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic relations.
The June 12 event attracted the participation of nearly 50 delegates, who are officials of Italy, ambassadors of several ASEAN member states in the European country, and representatives from leading research and consulting agencies, and universities.Read full text

-Members of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) sold 22,409 automobiles of all kinds in May, a decrease of 8% compared with the previous month.
This is the 2nd month in a row that VAMA's sales have dropped after increasing by 30% and 33% in February and March.Read full text

-Flights between Nanki Shirahama airport in Japan’s southeastern prefecture of Wakayama and Hanoi and Da Nang city of Vietnam are expected to be launched next month, Wakayama’s authorities said on June 13.
The service forms part of the efforts by the authorities in increasing international flights to the airport after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wakayama’s Governor Kishimoto Shuhei told a local meeting.Read full text

-The number of passengers through Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport, the second busiest airport in Vietnam, on the first days of this summer has surged, and is expected to maintain at a high level to mid-August.
On the first 12 days of June, the airport served over 1 million passengers with more than 7,000 flights, up 3% against the same period last year.Read full text/.
