Hanoi, (VNA) - The following is a list of selected news summaries last weekend by the Vietnam News Agency.

– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the first phase of the Tuyen Quang-Ha Giang expressway as part of his visit to the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang on May 28.
The 104.48km expressway connects Ha Giang and its neighbour Tuyen Quang, with a total investment capital of 3.19 trillion VND (135.84 million USD). Its first phase, 27.48km, that runs through Ha Giang province is expected to be completed in 2025.Read full text

– Ha Giang province needs to better the drawing of mechanisms and policies, and reform administrative procedures in order to pave way for development and lure investments, especially in its priority areas and products, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said on May 28.

- Parliaments should review and complete their national legal framework to create optimal conditions for the building and implementation of economic transition policies towards green, circular economy to match the sustainable development goals and international commitments on climate change, environmental protection and biodiversity preservation, National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh has stated.
Dinh made the statement at the 10th Nevsky International Ecological Congress held in St. Petersburg in Russia, with the theme "Ecology: A Right, Not a Privilege," which drew nearly 1,500 delegates from 52 countries and territories.Read full text

- Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang attended a high-level event on ending plastic pollution in Paris on May 27, which drew representatives from nearly 200 countries and territories.
The event was held on the threshold of the second session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (INC-2) that will take place from May 29 to 2 June 2023 at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) headquarters in Paris, France.Read full text

- Vietnam invested nearly 316.4 million USD abroad in the first five months of this year, equivalent to 93.5% of the figure recorded in the same period last year, according to the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
Of the total, 142.7 million USD was poured into 47 new projects, or 48.6% of the figure in the same period in 2022 while 173.7 million was added to 16 underway ones, a year-on-year increase of 3.9 times.Read full text

- Deputy Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand Vangelis Vitalis has expressed his belief in stronger trade ties between Vietnam and his country, saying that the two sides will expand their cooperation to other areas in the future.
