Hanoi, (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency. 

-National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue had a meeting with outstanding representatives of the Vietnam Women Journalist's Club in Hanoi on April 17.
For more than 20 years since its inception, the club has carried out a wide range of effective activities covering from professional affairs to humanitarian campaigns, winning respect from the press circle and the public.Read full text

-National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue’s upcoming visit to Cuba will reaffirm Vietnam’s great attention to reinforcing and promoting the special solidarity and loyal friendship with Cuba, and fostering cooperation between the two legislatures as well as the bilateral partnership in all fields, according to Chairman of the NA Committee for External Relations Vu Hai Ha.
The visit is made on the occasion of the 60th founding anniversary of the Cuban Committee for Solidarity with South Vietnam, and the 50th anniversary of Cuban leader Fidel Castro Ruz’s first visit to Vietnam and the liberated zone in South of Vietnam when the war was going on.Read full text

-The coming official visit to Cuba by National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue holds great significance as it will help further strengthen the two countries’ relations in multiple spheres as well as the ties between the two parliaments, said Cuba Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolás Hernández Guillén.
The trip from April 18, to be made at the invitation of President of the National Assembly of the People’s Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández, takes place on the threshold of the 50th anniversary of Cuban leader Fidel Castro's visit to the liberated zone in South Vietnam in Quang Tri province in September 1973 and 60 years since the establishment of the Cuban Committee for Solidarity with South Vietnam (September 25, 1963).Read full text

-The third Vietnam-Australia Economic Partnership Meeting was held in Hanoi on April 17 under the co-chair of Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung and Australian Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell.
Addressing the event, Dung said that the Vietnam-Australia economic cooperation has seen strong growth over the years. Since the two sides lifted up their ties to a strategic partnership in 2018, they have become partners in many areas from trade, investment, development investment, agriculture, education and training.Read full text

-Vietnam’s GDP is projected to grow 5.8% this year, sharing the second position with Cambodia in the region, only after the Philippines, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Notably, Vietnam’s public debt is expected to stay at the lowest as compared with eight other ASEAN member countries, the fund said.Read full text

-A Vietnamese cultural, culinary space was opened in Israel's Netanya city on April 16.
Organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel, the space is expected to popularise the beauty of the Southeast Asian country’s cuisine, culture and tourism while bolstering business cooperation and people-to-people exchanges of the two countries.Read full text

-National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will launch direct flights between Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City and India’s commercial hub, Mumbai, from May 20.
The carrier said it plans to operate four flights per week on the Hanoi-Mumbai route on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and three others on the HCM City-Mumbai route on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, using Airbus A321.Read full text

-The number of tourists to the central city of Da Nang in the first three months of this year has recovered to the level recorded in the same period of 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, according to Cao Tri Dung, Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association.
According to the municipal Department of Tourism, in the first quarter of this year, the city received 1.4 million visitors, up 4.6% year on year, including 391,600 foreigners, 62 times higher than that in the same period last year.Read full text/.
