Tien Giang (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang has earmarked over 175.8 billion VND (7.54 million USD) to build clean water supply works in the coastal area in the dry season 2020.

The benefited districts are Go Cong Dong, Go Cong Tay, Tan Phu Dong and Cho Gao districts and Go Cong town.

The investment will be used to complete the water pipeline system from the Dong Tam Water Station in My Tho city to residential areas suffering clean water shortage.

The province also aims to upgrade the existing water pipeline system in Tan Phu Dong district, which suffers up to six months of saline intrusion each year. The move helps bring clean water from the Dong Tam Water Station to district’s public water supply points. Besides, 56 new water pipelines, with a total length of 52,000 metres, will be built for residential areas facing water shortage.

Since the early dry season of this year, hundreds of water taps have been installed to serve for free residents living far from clean concentrated water supply sources and in coastal areas which are seriously impacted by saline intrusion and droughts. Clean water tanks have also been placed in several public places to help locals during the dry period.

Earlier, dams have been built on Nguyen Tan Thanh Canal to prevent saltwater and ensure fresh water supply for the Dong Tam Water Supply Station to treat and serve 800,000 people in My Tho city and coastal districts./.
