Hanoi (VNA) Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on September 12 received Alex Dimitrief, President and CEO of General Electric Company (GE)’s Global Growth Organisation, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN) 2018 in Hanoi.

PM Phuc spoke highly of GE’s achievements during its 25-year presence in Vietnam and hoped the US-based multinational conglomerate will expand business to further contribute to the country’s development.

He pledged that the Vietnamese Government will create all possible favourable conditions for enterprises, including GE, to do business in the country.

The PM took the occasion to invite the GE leader to attend the Vietnam Business Summit (VBS), one of the most important events at the WEF ASEAN this year.

Dimitrief, for his part, expressed his wish for the success of the WEF ASEAN 2018, hosted by Vietnam.

He also informed PM Phuc about GE’s plans to invest in the energy sector in Vietnam, saying he wants the Government to continue supporting the firm in upcoming projects.

The WEF ASEAN 2018 opened in Hanoi earlier the same day under the co-chair of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and WEF Founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab.

Themed “ASEAN 4.0: Entrepreneurship and the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, the event has attracted leaders of many ASEAN countries and partner nations, over 1,000 delegates who are also WEF members, as well as representatives of businesses from around the world.

It serves as a forum for the exchange of new ideas, a place to understand global trends, especially in regards to Industry 4.0, and to formulate plans for Vietnam’s strategic socio-economic development and the growth of Vietnamese businesses.

It is also a cultural festival for ASEAN countries with the host country in charge of organising activities to promote ASEAN’s shared values of multiculturalism, multi-ethnicity, solidarity, and common goals.

Meanwhile, the VBS 2018 will take place on September 13, engaging top decision makers from the Vietnamese Government and the business community in a dialogue about investment and business opportunities in the country.–VNA
