Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) will conduct agricultural restructuring in tandem with growth model reform and new-style rural area building under an action plan in 2022 recently approved.

The action plan is to implement the Government’s Resolution No. 01/NQ-CP on tasks and solutions to materialise the socio-economic development plan and State budget estimate in 2022.

The goals set by the ministry in the plan are higher than the targets set by the Government, with the sector’s GDP expected to grow about 2.8-3 percent and 73 percent of communes to be recognised as new rural areas.

Besides, agro-forestry-fishery export revenue is projected at over 50 billion USD, and 6,500 products will meet the “One Commune-One Product” (OCOP) standards.

To fulfil the targets, the ministry will focus on safely and flexibly adapting to and effectively controlling the COVID-19 pandemic to recover and develop the agricultural sector.

The ministry will promote modernity-oriented large-scale production and green and smart agriculture that is adaptive to climate change, boost agro-forestry-fishery export, speed up the disbursement of public investments, and mobilise investment in the form of public-private partnership for infrastructure development.

Science-technology and innovations would be utilised to raise productivity, quality and competitiveness of the sector, thus creating a foundation for the development of digital agriculture.

The action plan also emphasised infrastructure development for agriculture and rural areas, especially irrigation facilities, fishing ports, shelters for vessels, along with projects on infrastructure for climate change response, and warehouses at border gates.

Last year, the sector’s GDP expanded 2.9 percent, and revenue from agro-forestry-fishery export was 48.6 billion USD.

Up to 68.2 percent of communes and 231 district-level localities have completed new-style rural area building./.
