Hoa Binh  (VNA) – An illegal gold mine collapsed on November 4 in the northern province of Hoa Binh, burying two workers.

In the early morning of November 4, the two workers were operating an excavator and a truck to dig soil inside the Cot Co cave, Thanh Nong commune, Lac Thuy district, when a dam at the cave’s mouth broke. Thousands of cubic metres of soil and water poured into the cave, pushing the vehicles and the workers deep inside.

The district’s police and the military command are coordinating with the province’s rescue force and communal authorities to remove water and the mass of soil from the cave and search for the victims.

Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Quang has arrived at the site to supervise the search and rescue efforts.

As of late November 4, the cave was still filled with water and mud, with water continuing to flow in, causing difficulties in searching for the victims.-VNA
