Hanoi (VNA) - A ceremony to honour students wining prizes in Olympiads and regional and international science and technology competitions was held by the Ministry of Education and Training in the Hanoi-Amsterdam Gifted High School on October 19.

Addressing the event, Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission on Mass Mobilisation, applauded the learning effort of the students, stressing that Vietnamese students have consecutively won medals at international and regional Olympiads.

She appreciated the reform of the education sector in selecting and training students for international competitions, which helped enhance the performance of Vietnamese students at Olympiads and international science and technology contests in 2018.


On behalf of Party and state leaders, Mai presented the third-class Labour Order of the President to Pham Duc Anh from the High School for Gifted Students - the University of Natural Sciences under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, who won gold medals in chemistry in the two consecutive years of 2017 and 2018; and Nguyen Phuong Thao from the same school who got the highest score in the International Biology Olympiad in 2018.

Eight students won gold medals at international Olympiads in  2018 received the Prime Minister’s certificates of merit, while those who won silver and bronze medals were awarded the Minister of Education and Training’s certificates of merit.

Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha also presented certificates of merit to 15 teachers who have trained students for the international and regional competitions.

This year, all 38 Vietnamese students who took part in regional and international Olympiads won medals. They brought home 13 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals.

This has been the best achievement of Vietnamese students at international competitions over the years.-VNA
