- Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong on October 12 requested that Hanoi make comprehensive and stronger improvements in all aspects so as to develop faster and more sustainably.

Addressing the 17th Hanoi Party Congress for the 2020-2025 tenure, the top leader congratulated the local Party organisation, administration, and people on their significant achievements over the last five-year tenure, which he said have contributed considerably to Vietnam’s common successes.

He asked the capital to concurrently build on its glorious traditions and achievements, tap into its potential and advantages, optimise its opportunities, and mobilise all resources, in particular the trust and unanimity of local cadres, Party members, and people, to serve the city’s development.

The Party organisation, administration, and people of Hanoi should be further aware of the role, stature, and responsibility of the capital as well as its Party organisation, he said, noting that as the city plays a particularly important role and holds many advantages that cannot be found elsewhere, its Party organisation needs to take appropriate steps for each period that match the country’s development strategy.

As one of the economic locomotives of the nation, it is necessary for Hanoi to capitalise on every resource, potential, and advantage to develop its local economy quickly and sustainably so that it can truly serve as a development driving force, the Party and State leader said.

The Party organisation of Hanoi, he went on, also needs to pay special attention to Party building and rectification; the studying and following of late President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality, and lifestyle; along with the fight against wrongful and hostile viewpoints, “self-evolution” and “self-transformation”, as well as corruption and waste.

The 17th Party Congress of Hanoi, attended by 497 official delegates representing over 450,000 Party members in the city, opened on the morning of October 12 and will wrap up on October 13./.
