Hanoi (VNA) – Close to 270 Vietnamese citizens were safely bought home from Australia and New Zealand on a repatriation Bamboo Airways flight on September 23 as a joint effort of competent authorities from the three countries.

The passengers included children under 18, pregnant women, the elderly, workers whose labour contracts had expired, students with no residences due to dormitory shutdown and other with especially difficult circumstances.

Given that travel restrictions continue to be in place in Australia and New Zealand in response to COVID-19, Vietnamese representative agencies in the two countries have worked with local authorities to facilitate travel of Vietnamese expats to pickup points at airports in Sydney and Melbourne (Australia).

Vietnamese diplomats were also sent there to assist the citizens with pre-departure procedures until they boarded the flight.

Bamboo Airways rigorously undertook in-flight security and disease preventive measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Upon landing at Can Tho International Airport in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, all the flight crew and passengers were given heath checkups and put into compulsory quarantine in accordance with regulations./.
