HCM City (VNA) – More than 3.2 billion VND (about 138,650 USD) were raised during an online fundraising event held by Saigon Children’s Charity on September 12-17, its Chairman David Appleton has said.

Titled “Saigon Summer Ball 2020”, the event aimed to support children from disadvantaged families and help them continue their study, especially in the context of COVID-19.

A recent survey showed that the lives of people in Mekong Delta localities have become more difficult due to natural hazards such as drought, saline intrusion, and the ravaging pandemic, Appleton noted, adding that many families in the region are struggling to make ends meet.

The “Saigon Summer Ball” has been held over the years to help improve lives of thousands of poor children through culinary experiences./.
