HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Quang Vinh played a key role in Việt Nam’s Junior Davis Cup Asia Oceania Pre-Qualifying Tournament win over Singapore in the quarter-finals on Thursday in Indonesia.

Vinh defeated Kai En Matthew Lim 6-1, 6-1 in the second singles match. His win helped Việt Nam level 1-1 with Singapore, whose Tze En Gareth Ong beat Trương Vinh Hiển in the first singles.

In the doubles match, Vinh and Hiển won 7-5, 6-2 over Ong and Matthew Wen Jun Johnstone.

They will meet Malaysia in the last-four round.

In the Junior Fed Cup, Việt Nam, however, lost 0-2 to the Philippines.

Hồ Thị Trúc Tâm was beaten 1-6, 1-6 by Alexa Joy Milliam while Sophia Huỳnh Trần Ngọc Nhi lost 4-6, 0-6 to Jenaila Rose Prulla.

They will play the third-place play-off match with Mongolia. A win will give them a berth in the Qualifying Tournament in Kuching, Malaysia, on April 5-10.  VNS
