Hanoi (VNA) – Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung welcomed newly-accredited Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Dato’ Shariffah Norhana Syed Mustaffa on February 20, during which he said that culture should be an important pillar in bilateral cooperation.

Chung told the diplomat that Hanoi is willing to support the Malaysian side in organising cultural activities in the walking street around Hoan Kiem Lake in the very heart of the city.

He expressed his hope for assistance from the Malaysian embassy to successfully hold the Meeting of Mayors and Governors of ASEAN Capital Cities, as it will be attended by the leader of Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur capital city.

Chung also affirmed Hanoi will create favourable conditions for Malaysian enterprises looking to run business in the city, and suggested both sides intensify trade and investment promotion, educational and tourism activities.

For her part, the Malaysian diplomat spoke highly of efforts by Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular in the fight against the acute respiratory disease caused by a novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

She affirmed that she will do her utmost to foster relations between Vietnam and Malaysia, and between Hanoi and her country’s localities.-VNA
