Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) should contribute to strengthening the national unity and making Vietnam a greater nation in the coming time, said Head of the Party Central Committee’s Mass Mobilisation Commission Truong Thi Mai on January 16.

She made the statement at a reception hosted for Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Permanent Vice Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Council, who extended Tet (Lunar New Year) greetings to the commission.

Mai expressed best wishes to Nhieu, Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns and followers, saying the relations between the two offices, based on cooperation and mutual support, have cultivated good results in recent years.

The VBS will grow further as it plays a greater part in people-to-people diplomacy and national construction, she said, adding that the success of the 2019 UN Day of Vesak celebration last May is significant to the Buddhism’s development in Vietnam and has contributed to the State and Party’s external affairs.

She asked that in the coming years, the VBS will continue bringing great Buddhism moral values to life, enhancing charitable activities and fostering regional and global cooperation, contributing to the consolidation of national unity and the building of a greater nation.

The Most Venerable, for his part, pledged to continue teaching Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns and followers both at home and overseas to comply with the Party’s policies and State’s laws to promote a stronger national unity./.
