National volleyball champs starts in Bạc Liêu

BẠC LIÊU — The national volleyball championship’s second round has started in the southern province of Bạc Liêu.

The event has drawn nearly 200 players from 10 men and women's teams across the country.

The male teams included Tràng An Ninh Bình, HCM City, Thể Công, Hà Tĩnh and Bến Tre. While the female teams were LienVietPosBank, Vietinbank, Vĩnh Long Television, Đức Giang Hà Nội Chemistry and Đắk Lắk. 

Teams will compete in the qualifying round until December 29 and the final round will take place on January 2-5, 2020.

“The event is held annually to show the power of teams, boost their skills and select the best players for the national team,” said Lê Trí Trường, general secretary of the Việt Nam Volleyball Federation, on Wednesday.

According to Thái Quốc Lưu, deputy director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the event will help develop volleyball in the country and help Bạc Liêu spread its image.

In the opening matches on Wednesday, LienVietPosBank beat Đức Giang Hà Nội Chemistry 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-17) and Vietinbank defeated Vĩnh Long 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-18). While on the men’s side, Tràng An Ninh Bình crushed Hà Tĩnh 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-15) and HCM City defeated Thể Công 3-1 (25-17, 26-28, 25-22, 25-22). — VNS
