HCM City (VNA) – Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan received Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi in Ho Chi Minh City on September 15.

The Chinese official is in Vietnam to take part in the 11th meeting of the Steering Committee for Vietnam – China Bilateral Cooperation.

On behalf of the local authorities, Nhan lauded outcomes of sessions held by the committee in boosting friendship for mutual benefits, stating that HCM City spares no effort to make contribution to comprehensive strategic cooperative ties between Vietnam and China.

Briefing the guest on the city’s recent socio-economic and cultural development, Nhan said the relationship between HCM City and China is growing, particularly in economy and trade.

According to the city official, HCM City has to date established cooperative and friendly ties with eight Chinese localities, including Shanghai, Shenyang, Guangzhou, and most recently Chongqing.

For his part, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged to make efforts in enhancing his country’s relationship with Vietnam and with Ho Chi Minh City in particular.

China stands ready to share experience in socio-economic development with Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City, he added.

Congratulating the city on its recent growth, Wang highlighted cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese localities needs to be expanded in all spheres.

He showed his confidence that under the municipal Party Committee’ leadership, HCM City will continue playing an important role in Vietnam’s development.

The same day, Wang and his entourage laid a wreath at a monument of the late President Ho Chi Minh on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street.-VNA
