– The reform of market economic institutions is one of the issues to be debated at the second Vietnam Reform and Development Forum (VRDF) in Hanoi on September 19, said Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung.

Besides, the forum will touch upon innovations and creations to overcome the middle-income trap amidst the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and prioritised actions for a prosperous Vietnam, he said.

The minister stressed that the forum aims to collect opinions of domestic and foreign experts to serve the research and building of the 2021-2030 socio-economic development strategy, and orientations and tasks of the socio-economic development plan for the 2021-2025 period.

The forum takes place in the context that Vietnam is about to conclude its third ten-year socio-economic development strategy (2011-2020), and enter a new decade and era with many development opportunities and challenges, Dung added.

Themed “Vietnam: Aspiration for prosperity – priority and action”, the forum is a follow-up of the Vietnam Development Forum (VDF) but its agenda will be more inclusive.

VRDF has a wider participation of policy makers, development partners, domestic and foreign experts, and private businesses. The forum has been held annually in 2018-2021.

Participants will exchange views on the country’s reform and development issues to seek short-term and long-term solutions as well as specific actions to obtain rapid and sustainable development.

The theme of VRDF 2019 illustrates the efforts of the Government and people towards promoting innovation and startup, increasing labour productivity, and building national innovation capacity.

It also demonstrates the strong commitments of the Vietnamese Government to modernise the market economy, integrate into the world, and promote innovation for sustainable development./.
