Vientiane (VNA) – Twelve sets of remains of volunteer Vietnamese soldiers and experts who laid down their lives for international missions in six northern Lao provinces were repatriated at a ceremony in Oudomxay province on June 18.

Eleven sets of remains were found in two mass graves in Oudomxay province’s Nga district, while the remaining was uncovered in Ngoi district of Luang Prabang province.

The remains are scheduled to be reburied at Tong Khao cemetery in Dien Bien Phu city in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien on June 19.

During the 2018-2019 dry season, remains of 42 volunteer Vietnamese soldiers and experts who died in six northern Lao provinces of Oudomxay, Phongsaly, Sainyabuli, Luang Prabang, Luang Namtha and Bokeo have been repatriated and reburied.

Earlier on June 17, a ceremony was held in Oudomxay province to mark the 25th founding of the Military Zone 2’s martyr tomb searching team in six northern Lao provinces.

Over the past 25 years, the team founded and repatriated 1,731 sets of remains of Vietnamese martyrs.-VNA
