Ca Mau (VNA) – The southernmost province of Ca Mau is lacking capital for construction of 37km of sea dykes amidst serious coastal erosions.

According to the provincial People’s Committee, the province needs over 1.85 trillion VND (7.95 billion USD) to deal with the erosion along 48.5km of coastline.

But so far, the province has received only 928 billion VND (39.9 million USD), which is only enough for construction of about 11.2km of dykes.

The province has asked for more support from the central budget to cope with erosion in sea and river banks as well as in some residential areas.

Ca Mau is likely to need nearly 1.3 trillion VND ( 55.9 million USD) for the work in the 2019-2020 period and over 707 billion VND for the 2020-2025 period.

At the same time, the province has also asked for about 330 billion VND to plant protective forests, and about 238 billion VND for protecting the eastern coast.

Le Van Su, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, the province has mobilised capital from different sources for the work. So far, it has managed to fix many eroded areas with total length of nearly 17.9km.-VNA
