Hanoi (VNA) – New national records were set during the ongoing 2019 national shooting competition which officially kicked off in Hanoi on May 6.

The event draws the participation of 157 athletes of 12 localities and units nationwide.

Bui Thuy Thu Thuy of Hanoi set a new record in women’s 10 m air pistol with 237.8 points, breaking the previous one of 236.7 points.

The other record was established in the 10 m air rifle of women’s team by Nguyen Huyen Trang, Nguyen Phuong Thao and Do Thi Toan of the Army, with 1,845.3 points.

The Army team has currently topped the rankings of the tournament with 11 gold medals, followed by Hai Duong and Hanoi with four and three, respectively, said General Secretary of the Vietnam Shooting Federation Nguyen Thi Nhung.

The shooting event is designed to assess quality of the trainers as well as athletes.

Outstanding athletes of the tournament will be chosen for the national shooting team to participate in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in the Philippines, and book spots in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan.
