Can Tho (VNA) –
A business delegation from the Republic of Korea (RoK) led by Lee Dae-jik, director of the agriculture and maritime affairs bureau of Gyeonggi province and director of the Pyeongtaek port company, had a working session on April 23 with officials of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on cooperation possibilities in port and logistics services.

Vice Chairman of Can Tho People’s Committee Truong Quang Hoai Nam informed the guests that Can Tho is home to several ports, such as Cai Cui, Thot Not, Hoang Dieu and Can Tho. The city is a transport hub in the Mekong Delta, with 170 km of inland waterway linking to other Mekong Delta provinces, an international airport and a widespread road network.

Nam suggested that RoK port and logistics companies can invest in Can Tho through either renting land with full infrastructure from the city’s Development Investment Fund, or starting by themselves.

Simon Hong, marketing director at the Pyeongtaek port in Gyeonggi, said a large volume of goods from Vietnam go through the port, which ranks fourth in the RoK in terms of container throughput. He noted that the RoK market has accepted fruits and aquatic products from Vietnam, but Vietnamese exporters are facing difficulties in shipping those products to the RoK due to limited logistics services.

Hong said his port has modern storage facilities for farm produce and can conduct all quality checking procedures before customs clearance.

According to Lee Dae-jik, the delegation members have noticed the great potential of Can Tho in developing port and logistics services, thus they hope to establish linkages with the city in the future.-VNA
